Here are some photos from Alaska Rainbow chasing expedition ( mid-August/mid-September).
It was great to see mainly bears and eagles for weeks

big drop-offs near gravel bars are an excellent rainbows hiding places

tundra and mountains near upper stretches of the river

the rive often splits into many channels which can be anywhere form a few hundreds yards to a couple of miles.

    a typical narrow side-channel

the gravel drop-off in side channel:

Even typical 22" late summer wild rainbow( fat from eating salmon carcasses ) give Meiser 12'6" 4/5/6 a serious band

    Kanektok River?

To crowded, by Alaska standards of course. I have my jet boat over there ( in the Eskimo village) and this year it was one month trip, short by historical standards. Most of the time I am alone unless my buddy, fish biologist joins me for a several days.
It feels really good to be tens of miles ( by river) away form a few people living in the Eskimo village and have an occasional
grizzlies passing the tent within 30-40' during night......

They really have so much food( fish, berries) and see so few people that they don't care to much about human presence. Of course a serious gun is needed just in case.....

The river forms side-channel, the head of the side-channel:

and the lower part before entering the river again:

a few Bows like this were hiding under the opposite bank of the side-channel:

Another side-channel breaks off from the main river :

it looks like this when it turns with a 4-5' drop-offs ( favorite holding place of the rainbows)

friend of mine, fish biologist has visited me for 4-5 days so I could stop speak to myself and fish.......:D

Otter seen near the opposite bank of the side-channel:

    17' G3 + Yamaha 40 Jet "Rainbow Chaser"

    Tundra near mountains

Mid-section of the river. The river is getting wider, as it collected more creeks and smaller tributaries, has less side-channels but there are plenty of logs, droop-offs with very respectful
    number of rainbows
