Stock up on pink condoms boys and tie up some Vladi Worms...
Mind officially blown
Nice ties, Stonefish and Big E...
Personally, I fish with whatever and however I can... short of dynamite and an electro-wand... though I've used those both before in the past... M-80's anyway.
I fly-fish with beads in Alaska all the time, though I much prefer swinging streamers... occasionally I'll throw a nymph or even a dry fly. And when the doldrums settle in and times are tough, I turn to the Pink Worm. Berkely makes a 4" Bubblegum worm that I've had good luck with by threading a leader thru to a small glo-bug hook out the tail... I even made an articulated worm once with a conehead on it. Highly effective.
Dont knock it till you try it.
For many, it has little to do with how effective it is... And more because they're more in to the traditional aspects of fly presentation.
Zandoli Pink worms.......good stuff......What I really like about them, you have to tie them. You can't buy them. Now go support your local fly shop.
I see some people using pink rubber worms with a slinky weight and a big bobber on their spey rod rig too. Just another pathetic sign of our times- anything for a hero picture and a dollar.
Or maybe they're having a legitimately good time doing it?
I for one absolutely reject the notion that beads are fly gear. they simply are not as a matter of fact regardless of what the majority of people want to think.
people have two problems
1. they are unwilling to be patient enough to catch fish properly with an actual fly ( they need the ego boost of catching more than their share of fish) secondly they need the ego boost of people esteeming them highly because they are fly fishermen.
if a person's ego is wrapped up in how others view them as an angler then they are fishing for the wrong reasons.
that said i am sure you could do well spey casting a pink worm the trick would be keeping the worm from ripping..
I love this site,
.........catch fish properly..........
As in Tweed!!!!!!!!
Wow! Are you serious? With all due respect, are you sure these people “using pink rubber worms with a slinky weight and a big bobber on their spey rod” were not using center pin rigs? Just curious.
steelhead do not eat pink worms. trust me.
Very interesting response...and then I was drawn to this:
The key statement to all of fly fishing is right here in your response. Despite your obvious disdain for beads being passed as fly gear or disinterest in worms, you are right on the money.
If a person's ego is wrapped up in how others view them as an angler then they are fishing for the wrong reasons. Indeed. I really could give two shits how anyone else views my attempts at angling. I do like the spirited discussions though. Sometimes in the strongest posts against something you'll read a line written by someone bashing one way yet supporting in that everyone should fish however the hell they want. Awesome. We are never short on opinions around here, very cool!
Here's an analogy, it's like going out on a date with a beautiful women, taking her home and having wild sex, or going to the local bawdy house and buying a whore. In the end it's the same result, ie; your having sex, however you chose to do it...
Just fucking fish.
