Polluted storm water highly toxic to adult coho salmon

I wonder if smolts have a tougher time of it for survival all year long through Spring runoff events. After all, pollutants have to build up on the roads, especially in a dry spell for a month, then, whoosh! A sudden surge of nasty stuff working it's way to creeks in massive concentrations can't be good for the little young guys either.
