question about 40+ and what leader to use

#1
I have a fast intermediate 40+. Am I cool with just using level 1x off the end or do I want some kind of taper? What do you guys use with your intermediate lines on the Puget sound beaches?

I fish the same line.
For our local salt game, I go with a straight shot of either Maxima mono or Seaguar fluoro.
I use all the X whatever stuff for lake and stream trout fishing.

I have that line in a 6wt or 7wt and just use straight mono or flouro, strength dependent on what I'm fishing for . Maybe 4 or 5 feet of leader / tippet material. Sometimes I'll use an old 0x leader if it's been cut back enough and I don't feel it's worth rebuilding...

I have been using a +40 type III for several years with a furled leader. This leader will turn over big, heavy clouser minnows with ease at long distances.
