Yeah it bit the fly. Yeah I was definitely careful with the poisonous spine just as you would be with a rockfish and dogfish.

That's awesome! Two separate mornings last summer I had a pair of ratfish swim by my feet. I had no idea what they were and had to look them up. They are wicked cool, glad you hooked one brother!

I caught one bottom fishing when I lived in Bremerton. Being a fairly naïve Montanan regarding the salt in general and spiny fish in particular, I managed to get spined in the web between my thumb & forefinger. It bled freely & I experienced no ill effects, but there is still a small bump there 30+ years later. The lovely young lady provided TLC, however so I reckon that the experience was worth it.
