Knowing the cost of a speeding ticket, both the fine itself and the likelihood of increased insurance premiums, is always on my mind when I get that urge to shave a few minutes off my drive. These guys hammered what has been a great fishery and they get a slap on the wrist... sends the wrong message and is bullshit IMO.

And, if you don't think harsh penalty is a deterrent to stealing, check out the repeat offenders in Saudi Arabia.

    If my memory serves me...
The original thread mentioned something about a cultural 'smoked trout/fish' meal that was very much sought after in this particular ethnic group in western WA.
Upwards to 20 bucks per fish...

a 9mm brain hemorrhage would take care of the recidivism issue. It'd help the surplus population reduce traffic congestion, and fight global warming all at the same time. sounds like a win for everyone concerned-a "green" solution!:D

We could always encourage the state to stop the unnatural stocking of non-native Lahotan Cutthroat in Lenore, that would stop them. Or maybe we could triploid the Lahotans and then they wouldn't attempt to spawn. Oh wait than the most popular part of the fishery would disappear when 90% of the people fish it to try to catch the fish staging for the spawn. I guess we should just go back to my original suggestion of shooting poachers on sight, including all of you who forget to pinch your barbs.

Although you rarely write anything here that I think makes sense, I suspect you are a very law abiding man. You likely follow the law for reasons other than just the penalty. Criminals are of a different mind set in general. Don't assume their decisions are made using the same thought processes and info you do.

You can have Sharia law based punishments. If you think that works better than you and I just disagree. I'll take good old secular, inocent till proven guilty, attempt at rehabilitation, equal rights for both sexes etc kind of justice. I kind of think it makes for a better country. Honestly, I think our justice system is way better. Way better.

I also suspect crimes are way under reported in Saudi Arabia for cultural reasons, including the relatively harsh penalties. Seems to me they have their share of criminals as well, especially for the amount of affluence in their relatively small country.

If you want to make the case that it's a better system go ahead. I'd like to hear that one.

I'll stand by my statement that being tough on crime is a deterrent regardless of ones mindset or system employed. Sorry you have problems making sense of my posts...your ability to successfully operate at a higher level of discourse and debate will come with practice.

Don't forget, it's called the Criminal Justice System, not the Victim Justice System.

Thats what happens when you teach kids for a living, people expect you to be able to read & write.. Ingnorant people like me end up as commercial fishermen & then Boeing employees when they are to old to fish for a living.
