Just playing around with the wing.
That's one pattern that you can really fool around with. You can tie it "wulff" style, fan wing, trude style, hair wing, or as a streamer.....they all seem to work pretty well...
I do not fish the Royal much, prefer the humpy over it. But I believe that the combination of peacock and red make that fly. Wings are just an add on. But that is MY opinion. You might want to get the fish's opinion which is much more valuable.
P.S. Nice looking fly.
Caddis Style, = Wright's Royal
Fan wing size 16 and 18 works "pissah" for me !
The old Coachman standby. I got to tie some up!
I remember fishing a coastal Canada river estuary and a guy on a hot day in August during the evening hooked the largest salt-cutthroat I've ever seen. Using what? A basic california coachman; same pattern, just substitute yellow for red.
