Fred Meyer's currently has Absolute Waterproof Tape on sale for $2.09 per roll.
By far the best tape I've found for avoiding line cuts.
I go through rolls of this per year.
If you don't wear gloves and want a tape that stays on all days and works better then duct tape, give this a try.

I picked up a few rolls and am psyched to give it a try. I have real dry skin, and problems with fingertips cracking after a day on the saltwater. It seems like it will stay on well and since it's stretchy and fairly thin will protect while still preserving some dexterity.
Thanks for the suggestion. Now back to the 3M argument!
Good stuff and great price. I usually use it just after my finger starts to bleed. One of these days I might remember to use it first... but I doubt it.
Two years is an eternity for Outbound longevity.
My current OBS one started cracking after about eight beach trips over a three week period.........

I got out and field tested this stuff twice over the weekend, and was quite pleased with the results. I taped up both thumbs before hitting the water, and the tape easily stayed on for four hour stretches of constant casting and retrieves. It sticks and stays on when wet better than anything else I've tried, and did not make my fingers clumsy enough to seriously interfere with stripping line or tying knots.
The finger guards might be a fine for protecting the phalanges from running line, but that doesn't help the tips.

I was a bricklayer for years. In the job shack before starting it looked like fighters taping fingers. We used regular sports tape.
it would last all day. very inexpensive.
