I've never owned a video camera before but want to get one to toss in my boat. This thing needs to be a camera for dummies that can take a beating. It's gonna live it's life in a drift boat and be used by whoever is not landing a fish.
Is there an easy to use, durable, waterproof (or resistant) video camera on the market that won't break the bank?
I'm afraid a camera with all those qualilties has yet to be invented. Waterproof cases start at around $200, they are more like a bag than a case. I have yet to see a water resistant camera, besides a little small one the size of a walkman. My guess is that if you went out and had one of each camera on the market, and dropped them all from eye level that all the cameras would fail to work afterward. If you want the cheap of cheap, that you don't mind getting wet and ruining, or dropping and wrecking, I'd say go to your local pawn shop. For 100-200 bucks you'll get a crappy old 8mm that may not work, make sure to check it before you take it home. But the quality and gyzmoes will be comprimised compared to spending $500-1000 (skys the limit) for a digital video. For a good HD, they break the bank starting at about 3000 and up. Its hard not to break the bank when video camera shopping. Maybe the little walkman size one would be best, I think radio shack has them. They're small, relatively affordable, and i think you can dunk some models under water.
Well If you don't want to spend a lot you could get a waterproof Digital camera. These take videos but not too long as I don't think the chip is big enough for a long shot. But it couldn't take the beating that you are talking about. No camera can.
Water Resistant means you can take it out in the rain but don't try to get it soaked. It won't work under water. Don't ask.
