Really is the safest and most efficient way to fish narrow rivers for steelhead. I shadow friends all the time at catch to ensure a safe retrieve. Pools can drop instantly and they'll never know it's coming.

That is an awesome video. While watching it, it occurred to me that Mr. Moen was fishing in the rainforest, with a teamate, on a small stream and I found it rivetting. My own recent steelheading has been in a desert, alone, on a monsterous river. It sure made me want to try it his way too!

    Go Red Sox,

Now I want to catch a steelhead. Problem is, I'm 6,000 miles short of being near one. Drats. I guess I'll just have to console myself with pretty wild browns in their native waters. Just not the same, though. Sigh.

Waidaminit! I can go for Atlantic Salmon instead! There's an idea! And it's only 700 miles to the nearest salmon waters in France! Can't do it as a day trip, though. Sigh.

    Thanks for the video link,
    Kenneth

That will never happen, shitty steel days don't sell gear! However, you too can catch monster bucks in wild rain forests if you have Patagonia backpacks, waders, boots, and coats.

Patagonia backpacks? I thought you had to wear Simms, Orvis, or Sage gear to increase your percentages of catching fish. So where's the sense in packing $2000+ worth of gear and outwear rather than fixing the CV boots to my 83 gonna civic?

As good as Moen's videos are, this one suggested by Bass_Turds is one I'd really like to see. I'm probably qualified to star in it. This time of year my specialty, besides getting skunked, is catching hatchery kelts.

A friend and I started on a parody of Lani Waller's video "Fishing for Trophy Steelhead." This was back when video cameras were ginormous things that held full size VHS video tapes. I noticed that in his video, Waller had a section of the Babine River all to himself. However, the video did not stress the main things that led to his success in catching trophy sized steelhead. So our parody would include all the essential background information that was being left out. I mean, if it's trophy steelhead you want, first thing is only fish rivers where the world's largest steelhead are found. We didn't have easy access to the Babine, so we thought we'd tape the next best location: a section of the upper Skagit River marked with signs reading: "Not open to fishing," the idea being that the angler in search of trophy steelhead should go where the big fish are and no one else is there fishing so you can fish over completely undisturbed trophy steelhead. Had we finished it, I'm sure the video would have revolutionized steelhead fishing videos for all time. However it occurred to us that we had arrived on such a good idea that we should just keep it to ourselves . . .

Are you implying the Todd's footage was likely filmed in illegal territory or private property?

Excellent video. That was a great series of handoffs for that fish. That is picture perfect water, sure beats the hell out of the Wenatchee!

Handing the rod off = doesn't count. While the vid is most excellent, why not show the truth? Steelhead fishing on rivers that still have a few fish and a reputation...the experience more closely resembles Black Friday at Wal-Mart...except there is more sportsmanship and etiquette shown on Black Friday :D

Wow, what a bunch of whiny babies.

They have nice gear and I don't.

They get to fish places I don't.

If this video doesn't get your stoke on you should just walk away from the sport.
