Wouldn't fly fishing indicate that you are fishing something that is imitating a bug?
So when you're swinging a streamer, you're not fly fishing based on that logic.
yep. I'm taking purist to a whole new level man. I'm only fishing size 8,235 fruit fly patterns.
Jofus, putting the fly back into flyfishing.
But that would imply that nymphing is fly fishing
Of course it is. Here is my new criteria. If your fly looks like a bug, it's fly fishing. If your fly looks like the interior of a 1970's socal lowrider van.. its swinging.
And what if it looks like this:
It is a prooven scientific fact that fishing with beads is a cover that some "flyfishermen" use as an excuse to hang out in craft stores. Personally I think it's driven by an insatiable urge to crochet?
ha ha ha, yeah!
BJG, the young attractive personal shopping assistant that I had my list visit to the craft store was amazing. Delightful, helpful and a good conversationalist, she and her perky self walked me around the newly re-arranged store for a half hour helping me find my fly tying and crafting needs. After that, her twin sister gave me a 10% discount for being an old guy with a funny ID card and a coupon for my 40% off my next visit. What is not to like about that.
Over the last few days I had reason to look in and remove a pattern from my late summer/fall steelhead fly box. Each time I pulled out a Spade to affix to my leader tippet. Couldn't have chosen another fly pattern if I'd wanted to.
In the winter time it was always lots of Rabbit. Three to four inches long was always the best. Black, Olive, Green, Burble. Lots of colors out there.
I'm only using W.Buggers!!!!!!
Salmonfly.net has some great Steelhead fly suggestions...check the link below.
