I got out on the water today. The river is in great shape; good clarity, and temps pushing 39°f.. I was able to cross the river and fish a favorite run. The parking lot suggested no one was there, and the parking lot was right. Switching to an old type 4 sink tip, I started to make my first passes into the slow shallow current with an unweighted intruder. About half way down I connected to a definite fish. It took about two minutes to land a hatchery hen that fought like it had just summited Mt. Everest. Made a second pass through the run with a 13ft. section of t14 and a different fly. Nothing. Three days, four grabs, three hookups, and two landed fish: The wind is definitely at my back.
