I was in the service but I missed all the conflicts the USA was in. I went in in 1953 after Korea. Got out in 1956. U.S. Army. I was a Cook and a Baker. Both good jobs. Missed Viet Nam and was to old for the others.
Nah, you toe'd the line and served your country just like the rest of us. Just because you weren't in during a conflict doesn't make your service any less than anyone else. Happy Veteran's day!
Veterans' Day is a much happier day than the other day of remembrance in May because we get to thank those who served directly. Thanks for your service, and glad you are alive to be thanked.
My thanks for service of the U.S. Military. This country is unique and better from the military service men and women. I am too thankful for the way that you protect my home in Germany and many other countries that I visit!
My grandfather James A. O'Brien kept a diary of his time in the American Expeditionary Force during the Great War. It is all very matter of fact, but reading between the lines is sometimes chilling.
I've learned to puzzle out the handwriting, so this is the page I attached. I have copied verbatim including mistakes.
This was the basis for Veterans Day on Nov 11
"Nov. 11 the 11 on the month at 11 oclock the war was over and we were all glad. The huns came over to our lines shouting Kamerade the war is finish they gave us cigarettes and souvenirs we stayed on the lines for two days, We had to bury our dead on the hill where we stopped hostilities"
Thank you for your service. Much respect.
