With so much talk of yarnies lately, a newcomer to this forum might think that is the only fly to use to catch steelhead. But I'd like to hear about/see what other flies folks are using, or hoping to use, this season. This could be your classic standby, a new discovery, some weird concoction you've come up with recently...you name it. Just wanted to read about and see something other than yarnies. I'll start. I've been digging on these rabbit strip flies made my the Anadromy.com folks. Don't know much about them, but I dig their style. They have some really great illustrated step by steps for some of their flies. The step by step of the above fly is here: http://www.anadromy.com/grapefruit_head_sbs.html. Anyway, I've been fishing this fly a bit, in a few different colors. It looks beautiful in the water. The pink 'bou fluttering over the black rabbit makes it almost seem to glow, and the spun fox maintains a nice profile. Other than that, I'm hoping to learn more spey flies this season.
