They are spawning right now in Alabama. I've been tearin em up. Figured out where a bed was right off my dock and was catching one every cast. Minnow streamer. Lots of fun on a fly rod.

    Want a slab.

I think the water is a tad warmer in Alabama than Western Washington, but I am chomping at the bit to get out there and flay the water to a froth. Spring fever is a terrible thing.

    Thanks for sharing.

yeah I'm sure it's a little warmer here. But it is pretty cold for alabama. Been a crazy winter with several snows and many days at 12 degrees and below, sometimes single digits. So the water is still pretty cold but it is warming up. I was doing very slow long strips.

According to the weather speaker, looks like winter is not over yet, in your part of the world.

That could make your water hard.

Hit the fish the day before the cold snap comes.

It's been about 3 months since I started this thread and things are looking much better. Bare ground has started to show here on the tundra and opening day is just 4 weeks away. In 5 weeks I will be able to travel again and look forward to doing some road trips. All of my crappie stuff was updated this winter, now all I need is some open water to do my thing.

Atomic Dog, keep me posted on the H-S chain of lakes and I'll try to get over there once the bluegills are on the beds. Zen wants to join us since he is nearby, maybe we'll get a chance to eat some fillets and sip some ales. I am so ready by now.

Let's get some kind of a crappie network going here where we report where, when and what we caught and what we caught them on. Crappie are a vastly under fished resource and superb table fare. Better they don't die of old age.

It won't be long now (said the rabbi).

I was poking around some photos and found these, dated May 11 last year. An afternoon on shiner, crappie candy flies live up to their name.

They work on 'gills, too. It's always a riot to tie a dropper behind the CC, in this case an improved McGinty.

I'm pretty antsy for spiny ray fishing...

Me too. Either I am going to have to travel over the hump or else the weather is going to have to change for the warmer.

    I got the fever though.

Maybe one of you might know why the road down to H-S was gated last weekend? Anybody?!?
