So I was am still pretty new to tying! But was visiting with mom the other day and talking about tying showing her something's get son had tied up and what I used when she offered me a bunch of thread. Now I have never used anything but what you can get at the fly shops but it got me wondering can you??? I ask because she had a ton of colors and I have half a dozen.lol So what's the difference between the two and does anyone ever use the other?

If the spool fits the bobbin, go for it.

My wife sews, knits, quilts and has a lot of all kinds/colors of threads. I've poked through her stash and found some that I'd tie with, but for the most part it's cotton, and that I avoid.

    Regards,
