Pretty frustrated. I'm healthier than I have been in so long. Ready to put in the necessary river time to get things done but the state of our waters is so horrible. Really need to get this done. I've had thick skin and a good sense of humor but being the laughing stock of the steelhead community I am really over it. My skin feels paper thin

I gave up on Steelhead fishing, I was there for the last good years in the 80’s. But it’s a uphill battle now, so I switch to unicorn hunting ! I shoot them with a peashooter filled with pixe dust,it’s very rewarding pastime.

+1... that's what I was thinking... even with the low Columbia run this year there will be some fish in the Ronde that can be caught if you pound the good looking water and fish it well.

I say this as someone who has to remind himself from time to time, life is far too short to let yourself get rubbed raw over what randos on the internet have to say about something. Just go fish.

To finish the moment, to find the journey’s end in every step of the road, to live the greatest number of good hours, is wisdom.

If you stop here you have a lot to be optimistic about. Sorry if I ever rubbed you too hard.

I'm not sure which is worse- your tale or mine. A couple of steelhead the first year out and a four year drought.

    "Unluckiest steelheader in the world."

Bull pucky D.O. Believe it or not, back in those days when steelhead fishing was allegedly quite good, but there was no internet, no steelhead fly guides, and no T-14, etc., and no books beyond "Steelhead Drift Fishing & Fly Fishing" which wasn't all that useful, it was not at all uncommon for newbie steelhead fly fishers to fish for 2, 3, or 4 years before finally landing one. My observation is that guys who came to steelhead fly fishing from bait and gear fishing caught fish on flies much sooner. I think that's because they already knew what water held steelhead. Again, back in the time when that water most always did hold steelhead.
