Did anyone watch it this morning...wow, one of the best games I've seen in a long time. Love Olympic hockey and beating the Russians is almost as good as winning the gold, especially on their home soil. With the big rink, its fun to watch a lot of these players handle the puck and as a U of North Dakota alum, great to see TJ Oshie hammer home 4 of 6 shootout goals...should the two teams meet again in the medal round, it'll be head games all day long.

Anyone else get up early to watch it?

I was so excited I beat my alarm up before 4:30 and wow was it worth it. I'm a huge hockey fan and always enjoy big ice and all star rosters but this game was extra special. I don't love the shootout, but the Oshie show was incredible! you got the country on your shoulders kid, don't mess up!

I really wish I had seen that.

    Sigh. Stupid time differences.

An Olympic classic. It is the "moments" like that makes the Olympics worth watching.

I too love the big rink.

A US/Russia rematch of the gold in the men and US/Canada for the women should be must watch TV for even the most casual hockey fan.

Josh - while I watched it "live" it was replayed at least twice yesterday.

I see that Russia and Slovakia have played to a 0/0 tie through over time and are now going to a shot out.

Russia will likely not get a bye to the semis; Don't know if we will see a Russia/US match up for the gold or not.

Well good! I'm not a fan of hockey (I was watching a brawl on TV and all of a sudden a hockey game broke out) but this is great! I don't like Putin in the least and he said that he didn't care if the Russians won the Olympics as long as they won gold in hockey.

Of course, now that pros from the NHL play on teams for their home country, it doesn't mean as much as it once did but shouting up Putin is worth it! Take that, KGB!

University of North Dakota is well represented in Sochi Olympic hockey. Parise and Oshie on the men's, the Lamoureux sisters on the women's and Jonathan Toews for Canada.

When the women play Cananda it's going to be awesome. They do not like each other and are the top teams.

    The women's exhibition game fight.

Just an aside - Oshie was born in Everett and went to local schools through his freshman year in high School.

At times the background stories of the various participates in the "games" are as interesting as the events themselves.

    Go USA!

Canada vs. Finland is about to start in real time right now on CBC (Comcast channel 619 in the Seattle area). Regardless of who wins, both teams figure to be among the half dozen contending for a podium finish.

Nice. Thanks for the heads up. I've been terrible about keeping the live/delayed schedule straight in my head.

8 minutes in and we've already seen a NHL game's worth of excellent skating/stickwork.

Man I love the Olympic/international game.
