Hit my favorite West Side lake on Sunday with my partner John.
After last weekends 20+ fish each last Saturday we both were
jazzed to do it again. Got fishing by 10:30 to hazy overcast and
light winds. It was muggy as hell as we launched. I tried my
usual of dragon nymphs and damsels while John was using a
soft hackle. Nada....We decided to pound the lily pads with damsel
adults as the fish were starting to rise to them. John hooked a 16
incher on a tan damsel adult as I missed fish after fish on the blue.
At this point (about 12:30) the skies had cleared and it got very hot out.
From that time on till 3 it was the most amazing hatch I have ever seen....
Damsels everywhere, adults and nymphs all over my tube.... Mayflies,
duns and spinners littered the water and were in my ears and mouth.
    Plus those giant dragon flies....

The fish of course were going bonkers everywhere but with so much to choose from
the only way I could get them hooked was to go with something different. As I
looked at my dry fly selection there it was.... tied it on, ginked it up, and wait
for a rise to cast to...I made a so so cast (as usual) but hit the ring, a couple of
twitches and wham-o, a strong beautiful fish that was more than net worthy.
18 1/2 inches released for another trip. I yelled to John... put on a Royal Wulff
which he did and caught 3 or 4 fish on it. It wasn't my day to catch alot, but that one fish certainly made the drive home easier.
