I recently picked up a Deathstar and I want to match a new reel to it. I currently have a Guru 4 (what I'll use on it for now) and a Hardy Marquis Salmon 3 (too big for the rod). I'm likely going to dump the Hardy because I don't have a rod to use it on at the time (and the Deathstar can handle heavy enough tips that I doubt I'll find a need for an 8 wt+ spey reel anytime soon). I'd like to stay between $250 and $450 on a reel purchase so any calls for a Hatch 7 plus will sadly not help much. The Guru I have is fine and dandy though I may send it in to Lamson because the spool is getting a little too freespool friendly. I'm looking at Solitude S5 reels, Nautilus CCF 10(?), Lamson Guru HD (like the cage a whole lot) and the Lamson ARX. Maybe a CLA 5? There are so many reels out there that I want to make a good call. The rod weighs 7 5/8 oz and I don't honestly know what reel weight I should be looking for... an ounce heavier? two ounces? I would love to get some opinions. Oh, and I plan to use strictly shooting head systems with this rod (scandi, rage, and skagit compact lines... no mid bellies as I'm still pretty new to the spey game). Thanks!
