I hooked a big dark buck this weekend. It was nice to hook and it would have made a fine picture had I brought a camera.
It's fight was underwhelming. Although it was difficult to move at times. It did not make any great runs or jump. I have not hooked a winter fish as dark or big before. Do you all find that the large winter bucks like above fight different?
This fish looked like the Peyton's fish above. It was 35-36 inches on the rod.
I'm just curious as the winter fish I have hooked have always been fresher looking and fought better.
It was not a kelt either. My buddy who tailed it though it was a 20. I did not and measured it on my rod. When we taped it out at his house it was 35 but I'm guessing it was 36 as it was folded a bit and I was not willing to play with it more for more accurate measurement.
Good long weekend. Water was clear though. Wish I was not on the ferry right now an instead fishing tomorrow.
The big bucks are like big Chinook. Pull hard but not much else. I caught a big hen once, 15 plus lbs., and she was all over the river. For most of the fight I just held on. Even after she was unhooked she continued to jump and roll.
