Why you don't let your wife go to Alaska

When my wife told me she would be heading out of town for six weeks I though great I can fish everyday. I started checking my maps for rivers to hit. I sharpened the hooks and made sure I had enough flies tied up for a month. I was even going to call in sick to work a couple of times. Then she dropped the bombshell on me.

Julia
"I'm going to be out of town for six weeks in June and July."

Me
"Oh hunny I'll miss you while you are gone."

Julia
"Yeah right you will be fishing all month."

Me
"I'll still miss you. Where are you going?"

Julia
"Alaska."

Me
(under breath "Fuck")..."Oh that sounds fun."

Julia
(under breath "Hah hah")..."I wish you could go."

Me
(under breath "me too")...."Yeah I have to work and pay the bills" :beathead: :beathead: :beathead:

So the moral of the story is this. Whatever you do don't ever let your wife go to Alaska without you. She went to Ninilchick (Halibut central). She took many pictures of moose, bears, wolves, eagles, Carabou, Musk Ox, And of course fish. She went to Denali and was there on a day when the clouds did not obscure it (very rare). Oh and did I mention the fishing and clamming she did while she was there. Well, anyway I'm not bitter or anything.

I think you should 'show HER' by shopping at the mall all week and buy several pairs of expensive shoes and handbags!!


OK, maybe not....

Yeah Jason my best friend is a broker in Olympia. I'ld hit you up if he wasn't already by best man in my wedding

Ninilchick is awesome! do you know where she went for clams? when i went there we went to Clam Gulch which sounds like a promising spot :rolleyes: but we only got a few of those giganormous clams which have a reallly rubbery texture.

My parents jsut moved to anchorage, but unfortunately i cant visit them until christmas.

These could be Horse clams,and they are quite delicious. The key is to discard everythign but the neck, then peel the rubbery "skin" off it. Next step is to cut it in half, then discard any orange part you may see (bacteria). You end up with a flat piece, which you then hammer to death to tenderize it. Roll in egg, breadcrumbs and pepper and in the pan with olive oil it goes.
Yes, it's a tideous process but the end result is quite out of this world :)
