This rule was intended to overcome the long tradition of mining companies declaring bankruptcy once the mine is exhausted (and then immediately reincorporating under a new name), thereby sticking taxpayers with the cleanup bill. I understand why the mining companies don't want to hold the capital in reserve. But IMHO, if they can't prove they can clean it up, they shouldn't be permitted to start mining.

Without trying to politicize this too much, action seems like par for the course with current EPA.

They'll be strip mining for coal in Bears Ear before the end of 2018. There is no environmental protection anymore.

Oh well, if you cannot stop them, might as well make some money along with them... Helmerich Payne, you're welcome.

I think the decision is pretty much normal and what we'd expect for today. We all realize we exist only because of natural resources. You guys are looking for a way to justify your hatred of President Donald J. Trump. I don't understand your hatred but I do understand your perceived interest which shouldn't exist in the real world.

So if we only exist due to natural resources should we not protect them? Seems like common sense...

It's true that this is in line for what we would expect. Elections have consequences. In this case, the price will be paid by the environment, the poor, and the middle class. And, I fear, by people like my son, a US Marine, and his buddies. It's painful to watch, but as I discussed with my dad (a career naval officer and certainly no lefty) there's not much we can do now except watch it burn, and hope we can rebuild in a few years. So my post is just about keeping a list of the damage.

I am all ok for people getting one vote, their vote, and for voting for whom they want, but will people be big enough to really look at what is going on and not blindly hide behind their vote? Will you truly voice against what leadership is doing, say "this is not good, need change"?... I am fully ready to give credit where credit is due, but I do not see anything but harm from this administration.

    It is a disaster.

Will you ever criticize who you voted for or just follow because of your hatred of the opposite party? I ask anyone that.

I feel Bill Clinton was the last effective President of the US we have had. Bush, Obama and now Trump, fail getting a passing grade.-alot of factors and levels of failure, but all seemed arrogant about what they accomplished.
I'd love to see any President do a great job, whether I voted for them not. This is not following your favorite football team, this is real sh*t!

Politics stuck in Congress, Senate, Supreme Court all voting /ruling based on party lines is ridiculous and killing this country.

If there hadn't been a few laws broken we would still be the Queen of England's subjects.
