wool head flies

    i want to tie a wool head sculpin or any fly using sheeps wool. any suggestions? mike w

    I really like woolhead sculpins. They are pretty much my exclusive sculpin patterns and have been for several years. My favorite is a woolhead with a rabbit strip back. When fishing a woolhead you do have to let the wool soak up water so that it will sink readily.
    Pack on a lot of wool before trimming it. I prefer mine without added weight. The watersoaked head gets it down. Good steelhead fly.

    I tie mine with wool, copper wire, & plain/barred rabbit strip,etc. I weight them and tie with the hook inverted for less snags. Very frustrating to tie on an inverted keel hook!
