I've been poking around some other bulletin boards lately, just seeing what's out there. Man, I have to tell you, alot of those guys aren't very nice to each other, and I think some of them might be insane! First I thought it might be because I was on non-flyfishing sites (though I hate that stereotype), but then I went on a few "fly only" sites and most of them were just as bad, some worse (which was a relief in a weird way).
This is definitely one of the best groups on the net. It is a pleasure and a privelidge to be a part of it.
I have to add some thoughts to that if no one minds. I used to fish steelhead with bait, eggs, shrimp, beads, etc. The funny thing was all that time I was a very accomplished fly-fisherman for trout in lakes and streams, thanks to my Dad from the time I was a child.
For the last ten years or so I haven't pursued steelhead. Its time again and I just decided it was time to catch them with a fly as I always considered it the cleanest way to fish.
To have found this forum at the same time I begin my new life on the streams and to have experienced the most amazing courtesy and helpfulness from members of this forum is more than I ever could have imagined from any internet community.
Agreed! I help out with a telemark skiing site. Telemark skiing could, I suppose, be considered the flyfishing of the skiing world. It's amazing how far folks will go to split hairs between those that enjoy the spirit of the same recreation. It's a constant battle to keep things positive and on topic (and the same online discussion world exists in that sport- many negative and contentious "other" discussion areas).
I agree whole heartedly, several sites I used to visit, if you ask a question most of the time somebody jumps down your throat, for some reason or other, I rarely posted but watched it and felt quite bad for some of the poeple who were just trying to get some info. This is one of the most freindly and helpful boards out there. Thanks to all for making it that way!
I'm getting cutts here, coho, chinook, rainbows and steelhead. And every time i cast i get a great hit. So, when i'm limiting out every time, why cast in another pool?
All I can say is I'm one lucky forum moderator. I've only had three issues total in the 18 months it's been online. That my friends is pretty sweet and especially when compared to other boards.
I'm in total agreement with you!! Being new to flyfishing I realize myself and the other newbies ask alot of the same type of questions about the most basic aspects of the sport. I've never been made to feel stupid and have always gotten positive comments and suggestions. I'm glad you all help and encourage those of us who are new to the sport, it helps to boost our knowledge and confidence levels. Thanks again to all!! Kringle
I agree as well. This is the only BB I belong to now. Where civility is actually practiced – wow! What a concept, a place where people treat each other with respect. I like that!
Kudos to Chris;
I've only been a member 6 months or so but have made a couple new fishing partners and explored several new locations. I'm much more confident in fishing choronomids after a couple pointers from board members that paid off, how cool is that. I've picked up several new damsel fly patterns after the fly swap etc, etc, I could go on and on about the benefits of this board. I used to visit several other boards often, but now it's visit this board daily and other sites every week or so. Nice work Chris, and keep up the great work to everyone else. Thanks, Steve
I agree with everyone else this is a great site, and I would also like to thank chris for all his hard work at keeping this site working and continually getting better.
THANKS
