What kind of backpacking stove are you looking for? You should check out this link. I've made the switch to a beer can alcohol stove that are stupid easy to make and are ultra light. When your done, go to Michaels craft store for some light weight sheet aluminum for a wind screen. It will all nest inside your pot and only weigh an ounce or two.

Awesome, I'll check that out! Never understood why backpacking stoves are $60. It's a few pieces of aluminium.

Brian,
I'll second the coke can option. After thirty plus years of backpacking the battle with stoves is OVER!I purchased a fifteen dollar stove (coke can) from minibulldesign.com and can boil 2 cups of water at 8000 ft. in 4 minutes.Simple, efficient, odorless(I use HEAT from any automotive store),super space saving and SUPER lightweight.Sure, you can make your own,but minibulls design is more sturdy.Save the big bucks for fishing gear.
