This is the coolest fly I've seen since the goose poop fly.

are those little pebbles? You devil you! Nicely tied, a REAL rock roller!

"model railroad ballast" - brilliant tie. I bought a few of the rock rollers awhile back, but haven't given em a fair shot yet.....intersted to see how they do.

nice pattern! i tied a similar fly, sorry no pics, but i used goose biot for the antennae, tied in at the bend, a little frost bite for the head peeking out, and some dubbing for bulk, then added a good dose of zap a gap,let stand for a minute, i already had taken tiny gravel from a river i stored in a plastic baggie, drop the fly in the bag, shake like you were makin' fried chicken, and presto! you gotta cased stone.

Thanks Guys. I can't take the credit for this one. Part of the pattern came from Oliver Edwards, and the idea of model railroad ballast came from another fly fisher. Instead of Zap-a-gap, I used 5 minute epoxy. Works pretty well here on the Nisqually by my house. I matched the color of the natural river sand with the ballast. I tried using river sand but managed to bring some critters in the house. VEE was not a happy camper.

    thanks Ron Eagle Elk!

lots of ideas from this. in our neck of the woods we have a casing that is little bits of stick and of course the coarse sand in white to almost red hue...

i like the partridge feather legs but can't quite figure out how the black bead head fits in your example?

    thanks again,
