This pattern is designed to be fished under an indicator or not. But as a balance pattern it will sit horizontally under and indicator the same way that a damsel nymph will suspend in the water column.
I first fished it with success out at Grimes.
It could also easily pass for a small to mid sized dragon fly nymph.

This fly is designed to sit inverted (upside down) in the surface. When many midges first hatch they'll stick their heads and then their tails up through the water column, leaving their bodies bent under the water. I've used a holographic tinsel and red body to represent the gasses built up by the midges as they desend in the water column.
I've used several different materials attempting to create the flotation on the ends, but I've found CDC to work the best.
