I am not sure what hook it is to be honest. Evan burck gave me about 100 of them a year ago, some sort of egg hook. I would have prefered to tie this on a size 8 or 10 2x strong straight eye scud/caddis emerger hook but this was all i had.

I've really started gettng into using these as droppers behind a swung fly. Deadly effective.

For trout this summer I started out fishing a 2 or 3 fly rig but eventually dropped down to one fly simply for the fishes sake (foul hooked a bunch).

ive switched over to running a single fly on 3 feet of tippet behind a barrel swivel and pick fly wieght base on the water.

having the wieght on the point of the rig is great for stayin in contact with the fly and precise placement. These things like to spin in the water so i feel the swivel is important.

when i was running them behind a wieghted nymph or bugger i was missing hookups more often.

What is the grizzly material under the collar? Are those small hackle tips?

yep they are super small grizzly hackles, from like the very base of the cape the real tiny ones. ive experiemented with a few different wings and i really like the action i get with these combined with the light tan dubbing win thats over the top of them. makes the center of the fly kinda glow in the sunlight.
