    Yes, they're from the little D, up by the town of Ranier. The color differences between these coastal fish and the fish from the St. Joe are amazing. Makes you wonder if they are truely the same species.....

    They're not, St. Joe cutts are WestSlope Cutts, while these Deschutes fish are resident Coastal Cutts......two different species, both beautiful.

    HMMMMM, actually, while there is some discussion to elevate several of the cutthroat species to full species designation, there is also support for retaining a single species with multiple subspecies. Distinguishing between species and subspecies is typically subjective. The author is making bets on the future. Full species designation anticipates further future divergence. Subspecies designation anticipates stasis or even convergence via introgression.
