Thanks! I just did these the other day and really liked them. I just start tying and never really know where I will end up. Have you seen a pattern like this before?
The top one you see there, with my tippet knot still attached, is pretty chewed up in that pic from 2 SRCs and what I think was an 18inch jack steelie (got away after several tailwalks and cartwheels). They really liked this fly. I had fished a few other patterns through with a few bumps, but they held nothing back when I drifted this through. Other colors are next on my plate.
This is simply a bead head fly, dark squirrel tail as the tail, black or olive chennille body wrapped in black hackle, then thick black yarn is used as the 'shell back'. I put a layer of 'hard as nails' over the yarn to help it not get to chewed up so fast. It seemed to have worked.
