Anil- very nice fish. I don't think it is wild though. If you look at the dorsal fin, you will notice it is very malformed- an almost universal trait on hatchery fish. Although malformed dorsals do occur on wild fish, given their prevalence on hatchery fish, and the time of the year, I would put my money on hatchery. Good job for finding some early steel though.
This is going to sound funny but that picture doesn’t do that fish’s dorsal any justice. I’m well aware of the tendency for hatchery fish to have deformed dorsal fins but, after inspecting the fin closely, none of us could see any damage. I think it was just a bad camera angle.
For a variety of reasons I suspect that it isn’t a ‘Native fish’ rather a ‘Wild fish’ of hatchery origin. At any rate, it was a beautiful specimen and I was happy to let it go.
