This one is mine. I call it the monomid. Photographs don't really do it justice. The mono thread gives it a holographic look that nothing else can quite duplicate. At one angle it looks red and another it looks green.
Hook: TMC 200
Head: Brass bead
Thread: Black 8/0
Underbody: Black Thread
Body: Pearl Flashabou
Overbody: Fine red mono thread
Thorax: Peacock herl
Your fly is awesome! This is one of the best looking chironomid patterns I have seen. I just have a couple questions. What is mono thread and can you pick it up anywhere? Also it sounds like it is just wound over a black base of thread. Thanks for sharing such an awesome pattern!
Thanks. Mono thread is just monofilament line, wrapped on a thread spool. The red stuff is hard to find. I got mine at Kauffman's some time ago, but I'm not sure if they still carry it. I'm sure you can find it online if you do a search. If that doesn't work, send me a PM. I might be able to help you out.
