letemgo - looks like you had a good trip down to Belize. I'm going down there for the first two weeks of June. Being a student and a guide I don't have any money so I was hoping to find flats that I could access by foot or by sea kayak, will probably split my time between Ambergis and Caye Caulker. Do you have any info. or input that could help me in trying to find places down there to fish without a guide? Thanks for any help

Dear Operationwhitefish. I too was short on cash so I walked the flats at Ambergris Caye. We stayed at Captain Morgans Retreat which is north of the cut that separates San Pedro from the Northern part of Ambergris Caye. Just walk along the beach and look for for nervous water and tailing. I had my best luck on "Bitters" a crab imitation. If you can afford a guide, ask for Omar Arceo. Somedays I saw nothing & on others they were all over. We rented a golf cart and my wife would drop me off about a mile or 2 down the beach and I would fish my way back. Caye Caulker should be good also, but go early before it gets too hot and the motorboats too noisy. The fishing dies off about 2:30. The bones are often right in front of the resorts so you don't necessarily have to travel far. Be careful where you wade because the flats can be very soft in places and you can sink in. You should do well. Post me a note when you return and let me know how you did. BTW I caught the featured bonefish in front of Journeys End Dive Resort.

thanks buddy - the info is super helpful. And it sounds like the opportunities will be there. Mornin' bones (no pun intended) and afternoon rum drinks - can't wait.
