    I want to know what reel is that under the electric tape? Looks like a new XP on the other rod?

    That's an Okuma Sheffield centrepin reel. The XP is a couple years old. They've since discontinued it but a great rod for steelies.

    Some pin rods don't have reel seats, just cork, because you can then balance out or configure the reel position the way you want based on the length of your arm, as it rests on your hip since you're holding the rod high for long drifts. That's the only way to attach the reel to the rod and it works darn good.


    If you need to reposition the reel for some reason, the tackiness is easily cleaned off the cork. Actually had a custom rod built since then, took off the reel, cleaned her up and you wouldn't even know that electrical tape was ever affixed.
