This fly must be the one Roper referred to as the Griffith's gnat on steroids. I can't claim it as an original idea. It was showed to me by the Blue Dun shop as their favorite for Banks Lake. And I can't claim any great success with this fly on the mid Columbia carp. To date, I've caught more steelhead than carp on a fly. However, I tried some rusty swimming nymphs as described in the book "Carp on the Fly", and they landed with a big kerplunk that spooked all the carp within casting range. This bug has weight added but the palmered hackle lets it land softly. The copper wire rib is to protect the hackle from those vicious carp teeth.
