Nice steehead hen to break my slump on the Klickitat

Maybe the high water last weekend brought in some fresh fish. This native hen was bright chrome, 31 inches. Caught on the swing with a hareball leech and a heavy tip as if I were fishing winter run. First Klickitat fish for me this year after losing two due to tippet knot breaks.

    Great looking fish.
Did you end up changing tippet material to solve the breakage issues you were having?

Yes, I am using 2X Flouro, and retying each hour. I was also using 10ft. of T-14.

This fish came at just in time. I was thinking I needed to get a level wind and plugs. Now all I can think about is getting back to swing some more.

Bump up to 0x or heavier, there is no reason to go that light. I use 15lb pline for swinging which is thicker than 0x, I don't think it has changed my hookup rates much but has increased my landing rates.

I'm running 12lb maxima then this 2x GuideLine Egor rated a 5,68 kg that I picked up at the Dalles flyshop returning to the Klick from the Deschutes after stupidly forgetting my waders. 5,68 kg is 12.5 lbs. So it's not as light as you think?

doode, roll 10lb maxima and be done worrying about that part of your terminal tackle- It'll treat you right everytime, breaking off fish must be heartbreaking...
