Paul, you nailed it on the gun. The scope is a Redfield 4 to 16. The picture is of my son-in-law, Seth. The scope had been gathering dust in my closet so when he bought the gun I gave it to him. It's a sweet setup. A guy doesn't need that much scope on a 17 but there are no drawbacks.
We were shooting .17 HMRs. The .17 Remington would be a lot of fun too but at a much higher cost per shot. Great cartridge though. The .17 HMR is enough for rats. I did use a .223 some of time - especially when there was a chance for a shot at a badger or coyote.
