Walked 1.5 miles down to a hole to find three bait guys locked into it. So I walked another mile down. Walked 6 miles Saturday for one hook up that broke off at the tippet knot. I'm done with using fluorocarbon tippet on a mono leader. Straight Maximum UG from now on. Still, it was a fun day.
im with ya Paul. 10# max has yet to fail me, clear or ultragreen. ive recently added 15# p-line cx (which is damn near the same diameter) to the mix. not having to worry about your tippet is priceless.
I'm intrigued be p-line, but a search of the forum for p-line doesn't work correctly. Maybe I should start a thread to learn more. I've tried several different knots, but after a couple hours of casting, the tippet knot between maxima and fluorocarbon breaks off at the worst time. I'll tie on a new piece and I can straighten hooks trying to break off a snag up. It seems to me that the knot wears out from hinging. Sean, are your p-line leaders built with several tapered down sections.?
ive got spools of 25, 20, 15, 12 and 8. and run combinations of that. just never mono to flouro it just doesnt hold. why run flouro for steel at all?? especially swinging. seems it wouldnt matter.
the more time goes on the more i dont believe in line shy fish. in 90% of situations it seems to be a presentation thing moreso than the fish being put off by the line itself. the drag created by 8lb tippet vs 4lb tippet on a size 20 bwo for example.
i dig flouro for certain applications, but not for anadromous fish. if so i'd go full flouro.
