Naw - I never keep a fish - they're too pretty to kill and it's too much fun watchin' 'em fin back into the depths. No better feeling in the world, knowing they're going back to where they came from.

You should of kept it. It didn't do it any good laying on the dry rocks like that. I wonder how much slime it lost laying there like that.

Jim, you're right. I've wondered the same thing myself - wonder every time I look at the photo............. I was so excited to have landed that fish and so needy to prove to the world that I'd caught a fish that nice, that I just didn't think. Every time I look at the photo, I think, " Dumb shit!! - why didn't you just lay her in the water grass I was standing in while taking the photo?" Maybe I'm just assuaging my guilt about my thoughtless behavior, but when I think about how the whole thing played out, I try to remember how I tried to get everything ready for a quick photo: fish finning in the grass, catching her breath; found some "smooth" rocks (sounds so stupid now); rod where I wanted it; camera (waterproof Olympus) out of the case, lanyard looped around my neck and turned on; hands wet; lay her out quickly; take just one shot; get her back in the water and back to her world. She was still full of pep. Didn't need to be held in the current. She wanted outta there. She finned off. Quickly. However, the bottom line is - I'll never know. And I'll have to live with that. But I do thank you for your unsolicited advice. Taxes and gas bags - you just can't get away from 'em..................
