    I have mixed feelings about the classic Atlantic salmon patterns - specifically, the winging. Doing these wings right is the apogee of tying craftsmanship; but the final result looks like an unnatural aglommeration of elements that in sum, don't seem to quite equal a small fish's body profile. But this particular fly looks somewhat more realistic. Also, the extra long hook shank gave you room to tie a very nice multiple-section body with repeating elements. This one looks like it would fish; and it would certainly grace any display.
    (These are my own very subjective opinions.)
