if you've never been to the Smith River, GO! This was the top end for size, but the sheer numbers will make up for the lack of size of most of the fish. We averaged 30+ fish a day....and this was the slow season. Plus, the canyon is awesome!

if anybody get stuk with it during runoff or when it is off color, do me a favor and fish some nice sized sculpin patterns. That is if you really want to see the real PIGS. There are some very large fish present in there, but nobody targets them. I have talked to some people who ARE streamer fisherman and will rarlely ever fish something else, and they say it can be ridiculous, 20 or more fish in a day with a lot over 20". That is with a few mixed in that were in the high twenties. This was in spring rainstorms when the river was high and a little of colored, i dont how well the big bugs do in "good water".

Nice fish man! GOD that place looks awesome. My dad and a bunch of his buddies put in for the Smith River float in early July, and they got it! A 5 day float in heaven. But luckily for me, I have to play in a all-region East-West football game, so LUCKILY, i will be missing that amazing float.
