How dare you post a Kelly Creek photo in here! Wish I could have been there. Two years ago I was hiking down from the Cayuse confluence and hooked a cuttie about half that size. I then watched as a huge bull trout grabbed it and took off down stream. He was ruthless enough to hold on until I got him about 3 feet from shore - then he spit the fish out. Needless to say, the cuttie was laid to rest. I swear that bull trout looked like a chinook.
Had the same thing almost happen with a whitefish I hooked. This HUGE dark mass was chasing it around but split when it saw me. I can't claim to be a good judge of a fish's size underwater, but compared to the 18" whitefish I had on, he was nearly twice the size. Almost scared me!!
