After thinking about this fly for a while, I am wondering if I should have used green floss under the mono rib instead of dubbing. I like the color of the dubbing through the mono and the way the color changes depending on the angle that you view it, but it just looks to shaggy in the body. Using green floss would eliminate the shaggy body, but every lump and bump might telegraph through the rib. I may have to give it a try when I get some spare time.
Nice buggy looking fly Tom.
I think you made the right choice with the dubbing vs floss. Floss would reduce the "buggyness". Maybe using a finer dubbing like the Wapsi Super Fine or the Shane Stalcup Micro Fine will help get the results you are looking for. Also there is no harm in a little careful trimming.
