I caught my first steelhead on a spey rod with this fly that I made up about 6 years ago. I have caught quite a few more on it since then. Here's the dressing:

    Tag: Flat small silver
    Rib: Small oval silver
    Counterrib: Hot red wire
    Body: First 2/3 Purple Floss
Hackle: Heron dyed black (or substitute)
Body: Last 1/3 Purple seal (or imitation) faded into Hot Claret Seal (or imitation)
    Wing: Married Bronze Mallard
