Last minute scramble to assemble some fishing stuff and head out.
Brought the wrong gear... ended up with my 8wt rod, but with my full floating line and not my sink tip (t200) i meant to grab.
Started swinging at the top of the run (a new one for me, but 'my spot' was taken) and about 1/2 way down, i realized I had been day dreaming and that my line had stopped moving. I tugged a bit to allow the fly to to pop free from the rock and finish out the swing. Didn't budge. Tried a little harder and it pulled back But I quickly realized I was screwed since I didn't set the hook properly and this hog was heading to the ocean and my reel screaming. It did a flip and threw my fly back at me. DOH! But at least the river had my undivided attention now. Quickly tied on a bigger brighter fly that contrasted the first one. Began casting in the same water. Third swing the fly stops again. Set hook a little harder this time, but still thinking it is probobly just hung up. Nope, it pulls back again. A smaller fish this time, but chrome bright. Then I had to get back to town and pick up my kids from school. Sure would have liked to work that run a bit more though (hadn't even started working the nice looking tailout section)
