    Not a cuttie?

    Be the guide...
Is this a trick question? The red slashes on the throat are a dead give-away...

Could be a cutbow. It looks like there's a bit of a red stripe on it and the spots are somewhat rainbow-like.

...Sorry, my wife interupted before I could finish...
If we know about where and when it was caught we could help better. I'm thinking it cold be a SRC. As Alpine says, it could be a hybrid - but with the red under the chin - I give the benefit of the doubt to the cutthroat family.

Also note that the spotting continues down much lower than the lateral line. Rainbows tend to have spotting from the lateral up. Also the jaw line is longer than the typical rainbows (cutties tend to have bigger mouths). I'm still not counting out hybrid though...

Thanks folks for the feedback. This fish was released back into the Deschutes (south of Tenino) in July of '02.

Cuttband: Redband / Cutthroat hybrid, but it looks like it's mixed with some coastal genes... Dunno, purty fish though Smile

Cutthroat all the way, a hybrid may be possible but I would not put it very likely as this fish looks very typical of a cutthroat from the south sound.
