Here are some places that I can personally recommend to my angler
guests. I have selected these retreats for their unique character
as quite, peaceful and comfortably remote , with very good fishing
nearby. In all cases you should make your reservations well in
advance. Some accomodations will have reduced rates for winter
anglers.
Forks Area: "Brightwater
House" Richard and Beth Chesmore 360-374-5453 The Chesmores
have their home on the banks of the Sol Duc River, well off the
highway, just outside of Forks. Enjoy the privacy of several cabin
accomodations or stay in the main house. Special hospitality is
extended to fly fishers, with fishing access on the river, a fly
fishing library, and a long history of catering to fly anglers
from all over the world. Resident Black Lab and official Greeter
"June" might accompany you to the river! Home made banana
bread and coffee comes with the room. And Richard is renowned
for his personalized breakfasts. My winter steelhead fishing guests
are especially appreciative of this convenient hideaway. At night,
all you will hear is the stars and the river.Unlike most "Bed
& Breakfasts", Brightwater House will lend you all the
privacy you desire.
Port Townsend Area: "Ecologic
Place" Allison and Steve Willing 360-385-3077 Steve and
Allison host guests in a small group of 1930's beach cottages
on the beaches of Oak Bay on Marrowstaone Island. Not far from
downtown Port Townsend. The fishing is right at your doorstep,
with year-round Sea Run Cutthroat Trout and seasonal Pacific Salmon
available. The cabins feature fully equipped kitchens,( the market
is five minutes away), full baths, very comfortable orthopedic
mattresses, and wood stoves with all the wood you can possibly
need right there at your door. If you want them too; they will
keep your stove hot all day and when you get in from a day on
the water your little cottage by the bay will be toasty warm.
No television or telephones in the cottages lend an atmosphere
of true quiet and rustic privacy. (Your cell phone will work he
re if you need it.) Also available is a Lodge building with full
kitchen for larger group functions. I cant say enough for this
miraculously peaceful little gem of a retreat. And the cutthroats
really do come right to the waters edge there!
