Had a great time throwing various dries in Fernie. Spent 4 days total with 3 on the Elk and 1 on the St Mary's. Do not want to over state it but it is a great time. The fish are eager and the town is charming. I fished with the Dave Brown Outfitters and the guides varied each day but they were all very knowledgeable. The rivers seemed to be accessible to those who want a DYI experience. I think next year I will take a couple of days walking and wading both rivers.
Looks like you had fun, great place to fish. Just got back last week from 4 days there also. We had two very slow days while there. I fished my normal haunts there where I've slayed them in the past and found things were off those days. I hope you had better results than we did.
I've wondered if the trout are simply more sophisticated and have been hooked much more frequently now versus years past. My last experience at one of the tribs was that it just wasn't the same when the Fernie area was much less popular.
