Hey Darrel,
They cast fine as long as you match the appropriate leader size. Steelhead wakers and skaters will mess up a leader if you go to light. Try throwing a bomber, steelhead bee, Waller waker, bakke dragonfly on light leader. As far as micro-swivels I have never tried one and i don’t think I ever will.

If you feel the need to reinforce the hackle with wire, then do so on your flies

I just saw them today incidentally....they look interesting. I still need to get the ones I have dialed in. This one that I used looked great in the water, but I need to resist the urge to put stuff on the shank I attach it to so that it gets the full action as intended, that and I need to use a longer shank. It still worked and looked great, but I couldn't get it to move much with a really slow retrieve.
